Our Story
The journey of Sajjadia Islamic Society — from our founding to building a permanent home for the Muslim community of Riverside County.
The Beginning
Sajjadia Islamic Society was founded in 2019 by a group of dedicated Shia Muslim community members in Riverside County, California. Established as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Sajjadia's mission has always been to provide a welcoming and spiritually enriching home for the local Muslim community.
In our early years, we held our programs at rented community halls and spaces across the region — weekly Jummah prayers, Thursday night programs, Eid celebrations, Ramadhan gatherings, and Moharram commemorations. Despite the lack of a permanent space, our community grew steadily, with programs regularly drawing dozens of attendees and a growing base of dedicated supporters.
In March 2022, a significant milestone was reached when Sajjadia purchased a 1.4-acre property at 2460 S Main Street, Corona, CA — a 3,160 square foot building that will become our permanent Islamic Center. The community rallied together to make a down payment of approximately $300,000, with the remainder financed through a mortgage.
Following the purchase, Sajjadia applied for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from the City of Corona in May 2023 to formally reclassify the property for use as a mosque and religious gathering facility. After extensive coordination with the city's Building, Fire, Planning, and Public Works departments, the CUP was approved by the Planning and Housing Commission on March 10, 2025, and received final approval from the City Council in June 2025.
Where We Are Today
With our Conditional Use Permit now fully approved, Sajjadia Islamic Society is actively working toward breaking ground on our permanent Islamic Center at 2460 S Main St, Corona, CA. Our design team — including our lead architect, MEP engineer, civil engineers, structural engineer, and landscape designers — has completed all major design documents. We are currently awaiting final civil engineering drawings from G&G Engineering, after which we will submit for construction permits from the City of Corona. On the fundraising front, our New Location Fund campaign is actively underway. We have secured a Khums Ijaza for $1,000,000 (Sajjadia's share), valid through July 2027, allowing community members to direct their religious obligations toward this project. We continue to hold our regular programs at community halls throughout City of Corona while construction planning and design progresses.
Looking Ahead
Once construction permits are approved, Sajjadia will begin a comprehensive renovation of the property. Major planned improvements include seven bathrooms, a full parking lot, underground electrical service, HVAC, fire sprinkler system, new flooring, security cameras, and landscaping — all in compliance with City of Corona requirements. To fund construction, we are planning a formal community fundraising event targeting $50,000 or more, alongside major donor outreach and partnerships with regional Islamic organizations. Our goal is to fully fund the construction and significantly reduce our remaining mortgage. The grand opening of the Sajjadia Islamic Center will mark a historic milestone — a permanent, purpose-built home for the Shia Muslim community of Riverside County and beyond. The center will host regular Jummah prayers, weekly Islamic programs, Ramadhan and Moharram commemorations, youth activities, and community services. It is a vision that our community has worked toward since our founding, and with your support, it will become a reality.
